Biographical Records database enhanced, reimagined, relaunched

15 May 2025

The Hunt Institute is excited to announce the most significant update to our publicly available online data in years: the redesign and redevelopment of our Biographical Records database from our Archives. A reimagining of our Register of Botanical Biography and Iconography, this database provides detailed biographical information on tens of thousands of botanists, naturalists and other individuals connected to botany and related fields, from ancient times to the present.

Each biographical entry provides dynamic connections to related portraits, citations and additional resources. These bidirectional links allow researchers to navigate easily between interconnected datasets, whether beginning with a portrait and proceeding to detailed biographical records or starting with an individual's name and exploring related citations and other supporting materials.

Development continues as we enhance other databases to reveal deeper connections across our collections. Future updates will integrate the Biographical Records database with additional resources, including our online art catalogue and the forthcoming redesign of the Floras database, continually enriching the interconnected web of the Institute's datasets. Watch for further announcements as we continue developing improvements for our online resources.

For a more in-depth look at the Biographical Records database, see "Biographical Records database enhanced, reimagined, relaunched" in our latest Bulletin.
